Barbara
HydroCatalystHealerTL;DR
Barbara's Skill wraps the party in a healing field for 15 seconds. Her attacks do very little damage but they heal everyone while her healing skill is up, and it tops up whoever is on the field on its own even after she leaves. Her Burst is one big instant heal you save for emergencies. She's free from the beginner wishes and every stat she wants is Max HP, so she costs almost nothing to build.
Rotation
- Skill (E) to start the healing field.
- Two normal attacks to heal the party, or a charged attack if someone hurt.
- Swap out. The field keeps healing your on-field character for the rest of the 15 seconds.
- Burst (Q) only when somebody is about to die.
Abilities
| Skill (E) | 15 seconds of healing on a 32 second cooldown. Her normal attacks heal the whole party while it's up, and the field also tops up the active character by itself every few seconds. It applies Wet to your own character and to any enemy that touches them. |
|---|---|
| Charged attack | Heals four times as much as a normal attack. Slow and it eats 50 stamina, so it's for when the party is genuinely hurt rather than something you spam. |
| Burst (Q) | Costs 80 Energy, back in 20 seconds. One large instant heal for everyone and nothing else. It's the panic button, not part of the loop. |
The one mechanic to understand
She soaks your own team, on purpose.
The field puts Hydro (water) on your active character, and enemies that touch them get it too. That's how she applies Hydro without being on the field, and it's most of the reason to bring her over a healer who just heals. It also means that in a room full of Electro enemies your own character is taking Electro-Charged damage, and against Cryo enemies you can be frozen solid. Neither is fatal, but if a fight suddenly feels much worse than it should, this is usually why. Drop the field and swap out rather than standing in it.
What actually matters
The two or three real decisions. Everything else is noise.
- Max HP is the whole build. Both heals scale off it. Attack, crit and Elemental Mastery do nothing for her.
- The cooldown is longer than the field. 15 seconds of healing, then 17 seconds without. Her burst is what covers the gap, so don't spend it early out of habit.
- Energy Recharge. 80 Energy is a lot for someone who barely attacks. Get enough that the burst is there when a fight goes wrong.
Gear
A build that works. KeqingMains lists every other option.
| Weapon | Max HP, then Energy Recharge. Prototype Amber is craftable, has Max HP as its stat and heals the party on its own when she bursts. |
|---|---|
| Artifacts | 4-piece Maiden Beloved if you want her healing bigger. 4-piece Ocean-Hued Clam instead once she's already healing more than the team needs, since it converts the surplus healing into damage. |
| Main stats | HP sands, HP goblet, Healing Bonus circlet. |
Works well with
Electro
Pyro
DendroHer Hydro is the reason to pick her over another healer. Soaking an enemy before a Pyro character hits them roughly doubles that hit, and Electro and Dendro both have reactions that want water on the target constantly.
Don't bother
- Bursting on cooldown. It heals and then it's gone for 20 seconds.
- Any damage stat. She will never do meaningful damage and that's fine.
- Her full normal attack string. Two swings is enough to trigger the healing before you swap.
- Planning around her C6 revive. It brings a fallen teammate back once every 15 minutes, which is a nice surprise and not a strategy.
